The Role

The PR & Communications Manager plays a pivotal role in telling the Northland Properties story as our company continues to grow. We are looking for a detail oriented, confident, and enthusiastic individual who can drive public relations and communications for Northland Properties that will enhance our company's sentiment and reputation both externally and internally. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Social Media & Communications, this person is a gifted writer with a demonstrated ability to creatively and successfully develop and deliver effective narratives. They will be adept at prioritizing swiftly and effectively, shifting gears to manage multiple projects, and time sensitive issues. They have the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and can function at a high level within a complex fast paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Devise and implement corporate public relations strategies alongside the Senior Manager, to support proactive and reactive situations
  • Act as primary spokesperson and liaison for print, electronic, broadcast, and news media with respect to issues impacting the company
  • Manage strategic public relations campaigns in order to increase Northland brand awareness and positive visibility nationally
  • Clear, concise, and timely crisis communications that protect our brand
  • Provide communications counsel and support to brands
  • Engaging ongoing internal communications that shares our brand values of "we love people, growth, connection, and challenge" to drive culture and internal awareness
  • Liaise with our charitable organization on major fundraisers and donations
  • Execute best practice project management with cross-functional teams including external agencies. This will require both a keen attention to detail and proactive and effective communications across multiple teams.
  • Prepare and issue media releases, story starters, internal and external communications
  • Track all media coverage and prepare summary reports
  • Lead on ongoing copywriting, proofing and editing of corporate documents
  • Work with Content Creators on Northland brand content development
  • Other duties as directed

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Post-secondary background in communications or media relations/journalism
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in related field, preferably in a management capacity
  • Experience as media spokesperson preferred
  • Exceptional grasp of the English language and excellent written communication skills that provide the ability to tailor writing style to appropriately match the audience and brand voice
  • Highly adaptable to rapidly-changing situations and an ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Excellent writing skills with press releases, strategic plans, reports, and more
  • Outstanding public speaking skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours/on-call
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and can function at a high level within a complex fast paced environment
  • Considerable experience with social media channels and back end analytic and posting tools
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to network and build strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong interpersonal, organizing, prioritization, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to think and act strategically
