Job Overview

Reporting to the Site Superintendent and Regional Project Facilities Manager, the plumbing Lead Hand is to assist with planning and implementation of the renovation projects. Hands on with construction elements of the job, as well as directing all plumbing duties. This position also entails the requirement to provide technical assistance to field staff and coordinate project requirements with the Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator, Designer, Fabrication Shop and all other team members when required. Monitor and maintain inventory of plumbing material, equipment and tools required to ensure a steady flow of work for timely and proper completion of projects.

Participation in regular site project meetings is mandatory as well as preparation of daily production reports.

Scope of job duties

Remove toilets, fix plumbing deficiencies through the risers, zones and suites. Correct drainage issues as needed. Test all repairs. Experience with all systems and products a requirement. Work with team to complete tasks on schedule. Assist in all other aspects of construction and demolition.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee small plumbing personnel team.

  • Plan for and identify personnel and staffing needs in advance.
  • Provide positive on-site direction and leadership for plumbing team members.
  • Maintain work standards and outline behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity as well as compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Be aware/knowledgeable of the specific guidelines that include quality standards, time requirements and budget considerations.
  • Assist with evaluating plumbing team employees' progress.
  • Identify conflicts and follow up with conflict resolution.
  • Inspect installations for quality and accuracy with drawings as well as compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Review and interpret/understand all drawings, specifications, and plumbing systems to current code.
  • Diagnose design issues regarding all the plumbing systems and/or components and placement of such for the purpose of identifying problems and needs necessary for the design-intent to work properly in advance of work being done.
  • Prepare sketches of proposed work, produce layout drawings and code calculations for projects.
  • Effectively address change orders, requests for information and layout realignments.
  • Analyze and quickly resolve any assigned scope-of-work problems that may arise and ensure that all site deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Plan in advance and correlate work against the Planning and Scheduling provided, for both labor and material.
  • Maintain paperwork such as Hazard Assessments, Timesheets, Weekly Labour Reports, Daily Logs, Safety Forms, etc.
  • Ensure understanding of, and compliance with, the company Operational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Coordinate work with other trades prior to plumbing installation.
  • Provide technical assistance for plumbing work.
  • Help with all aspects of site construction when required or necessary, i.e., when short-handed.
  • Facilitate apprenticeship and training programs alongside management.
  • Manage on-site tools and equipment and keep an accurate inventory.

Skills Required

  • Sound communication and organizational skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to juggle multiple deadlines; attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Experience with Leadership and Planning responsibilities in the plumbing industry

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and/or be on their feet 8 hours / day

Do assigned daily construction tasks as well as delegating team members.

Use proper lifting techniques for heavy pipes weighing more than 25 kilograms

Must be able to work in outdoor weather and/or unregulated temperatures for 8 hours / day (Occasionally)
