Position Overview: Business Analyst, Data & Analytics

Business Challenge As Northland continues to rapidly expand its business across Canada, the US, and the UK, the company invests in cutting-edge technology to build a more customized and localized experience for its target markets. Technology and Marketing teams spearhead initiatives such as a new eCommerce platform, Data Lake, CRM & ERP, and other future-focused Hotel and Restaurant technologies.

Opportunity Northland is looking for a Business Analyst who will be a part of our Project Delivery team, working specifically in the Data and Analytics arena. They will be responsible for project initiation and perform detailed requirement analysis, document processes, effectively communicate, gather information and present to all the stakeholders involved.

They will be required to collaborate with multiple stakeholders across our business and technical teams to understand the business problem and identify and define the requirements, including data objects, data flow and business logic necessary for information architecture assessment.

This position is based in Vancouver, Canada and will report to the Director, Project Delivery. They will work closely with the IT, Finance, Marketing, and other internal departments to complete requirement gathering and ensure successful hand-off.


  • Understand, determine and document detailed business and data analysis, including functional & non-functional requirements, by engaging with SMEs across the business lines.
  • Document use cases, current & future business processes, workflows and diagrams as required and evaluate if the implementation team has the necessary details for project development.
  • Apply strategic and analytical skills to communicate and capture business problems and requirements effectively.
  • Document data dictionary, mapping information, business rules and ownership information for managing the data.
  • Support, facilitate and enhance the data requirement processes
  • Partner with stakeholders across Northland to shape a data-centric culture for handling Analytics projects
  • Engage with the Data & Analytics team in maintaining data repository, executing data governance policies, and documenting and maintaining data requirement templates and other data-related artifacts.
  • Prepare, present and communicate project updates with all the stakeholders regularly to ensure no gaps.
  • Identify, monitor and communicate risk to the stakeholders throughout the project life-cycle.
  • Support the team in testing project releases, communicating the operational plan and successful project handoff.
  • Provide support by developing project plans, identifying scope, defining deliverables, planning milestones, status updates, establishing proper communication and mitigating any roadblocks.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management of Technology, Information Systems, Business Administration or equivalent work experience
  • At least four years of experience leading organizations through business analysis and requirements gathering across organizational silos, preferably with data-related projects.
  • Experience working on Data & Analytics projects; Understanding of Data Management, Business Intelligence and Analytics concepts, including Data dictionary, Metadata management, Data governance, ETL, data lakes, visualization & reporting
  • Exposure to both Agile & waterfall frameworks.
  • Working Knowledge of Jira & Confluence.
  • CCBA/CBAP certification is a bonus.
  • Strong communication skills coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Experience eliciting and documenting requirement documents clearly and concisely.
  • Creative thinker with excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Clear results orientation focuses on achieving both short-term and long-term goals.
  • Expertise working with Excel, Visio/Lucid charts and other Microsoft suite products.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Experience in the hospitality and travel industry preferred
